Michael Sheehan
Michael was born and raised in Ireland but has lived and worked in Florida for the last 30 years. As a practicing psychiatrist, he is a longtime student of human perceptions, emotions, reactions and conditions.
His main photographic work has been as a portraitist with a special interest in environmental portraits. He attempts to portray his subjects with humanity, power, love and dignity, in harmony with their environment. The works of Vermeer, the 16th Century Dutch master, inspired him because these aspects are characteristic of his work. The world of Classical Painting has been a huge influence on his choice of subjects, compositions, lighting and color palettes.
This series began after seeing Vermeer’s original painting “Girl with the Pearl Earring”, which he then photographically reproduced as accurately as he could in the studio, but with a 21st Century twist.
